Photographic Archive
The Southwell Civic Society is the custodian of a magnificent archive of about three thousand images of Southwell, its people, and their activities. The collection includes photographs from the nineteenth century, together with those from the European Architectural Heritage Year (1974), and the 2000/2001 Millennium Survey. Many photographs were used in Civic Society exhibitions at the old museum. European Architectural Heritage Year in 1974 stimulated interest in photographing the town centre. A Local Heritage Initiative grant encouraged a comparative study for the Millennium.
