AT this time of lockdown when many people are finding that walking is one of the few things to do the Southwell Civic Society thought it opportune to remind Bramley readers that the booklet about a tour of the town, published in 2017, is still available.

It is written by a former chairman of the Society, Brendan Haigh, and illustrated with some of the black and white drawings by Donald Keefe which appeared in Betty Arundel’s Southwell – A History Walk. That booklet, which is now out of print, ran to several editions selling many thousands of copies.

The current booklet covers most of the town’s historic listed buildings in an easy walk of about 1.5 miles with an optional extension of about one mile to the National Trust’s Workhouse. In normal times the booklet is available for sale at the Cathedral Shop and Gossips Coffee House.
